Demo video for the first boss as well as tutorial part.
This is the game project which done by Head Empty Studio. It's a story-driven bullet-hell game talking about the cat, who has the ability to invade others' dreams, save other cats from bad guys and discover the secret of the enemies.Â
The game was released at the University of Alberta and got nominated for the yearly university game award. You can find the release website here, and the source code here.
I'm the programmer and level designer in the team. I designed and implemented the battle scene, including the battle map, enemy moving patterns and projectile patterns. I'm also in charge of testing and debugging.
Gameplay: As the player go through the story, there will be words that appear during the conversation, and some of them are good and some of them bad, tagged using blue or red.
Mechanic: when into the battle scene, the player needs to dodge the bullets from enemies and light up words in the scene by stepping on them. The word that play spell will decide whether the boss will die or the main character will give them mercy. It will also influence the end of the story.
Projectiles and enemies will get tougher and tougher as the game goes, and usually pelling good words would be harder than the evil words because good words are set more separated. The challenge here is that the player has to choose either to be a good guy in a hard way, or evil guy in an easy way.
